Managing Devices¶
This section shows device management operations such as exporting, importing, allocating, and deleting.
Editing Devices¶
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group of the device(s) that you wish to edit, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information.
- Locate the device that you wish to edit, and click View Details .
- All fields except Device Serial No. can be edited. After editing, click Save.
Exporting Devices¶
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group of the device(s) that you wish to export, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information > Batch Operations.
- Select the device(s) that you wish to export, and click … > Export Device Info.
- Save the generated CSV file to your local directory.
Importing Devices¶
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group that you wish to import devices to, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information > Import.
- If you require a template to fill in the device information, click Register Device Template (.csv) to download the template. Fill in the device information in the template after downloading.
- Click Upload File to upload the CSV file. The maximum file size is 2M and the maximum records per file is 1000.
- Click Confirm.
Successfully imported devices will be registered in the registration group and will appear in the list under Device Information.
Exporting QR Code¶
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group of the device(s) that you wish to export its QR code, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information > Batch Operations.
- Select the device(s) that you wish to export its QR code, and click … > Export QR Code.
- Save the generated ZIP file to your local directory.
Resetting Allocation Status¶
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group of the device(s) that you wish to reset its allocation status, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information > Batch Operations.
- Select the device(s) that you wish to reset its allocation status and click Reset Allocation Status. Click Confirm in the pop-up window.
The Allocation Status of the device(s) will be changed too Not allocated. This will disconnect the device(s) from its current environment/OU.
Allocating Devices¶
Note
Ensure that a model with the same model identifier (model ID) used by the device that you are allocating exists in the new environment/OU that you are allocating the device to. If required, you can create a new model with the same model ID in the new environment/OU. For more information, see Creating a Model.
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group of the device(s) that you wish to allocate, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information > Batch Operations.
- Before going to the next step, ensure that the Allocation Status of the device(s) you wish to allocate is Not allocated. If a device has already been allocated, you need to reset the allocation status first.
- Check that the details of the environment/OU for the device(s) is the one you wish to allocate to. Devices can be allocated according to the environment/OU specified either for the registration group, or for the device itself. If it is specified for both areas, the device will be allocated according to the environment/OU specified for the device.
- Registration group: Click the Group Information tab to check or edit if required.
- Device: Click the device’s View Details to check or edit if required.
- Select the device(s) that you wish to allocate and click Allocate.
Once successfully allocated and onboarded, Allocated Environment/OU of the device(s) will show the updated information. The device will also appear in the list of devices under the specified environment/OU in Device Management > Device Assets. If the device is reallocated to a new environment/OU, it will have a new asset ID, product key, and device secret.
Replacing Devices¶
You can replace devices in the event where the device has malfunctioned or requires upgrades.
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group of the device(s) that you wish to replace, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information.
- Locate the device that you wish to replace. Allocate the device to an environment/OU if it is not done yet.
- Click Replace .
- Select Manual Input to manually enter a device serial number (1 - 64 characters) or System Generated to let the system generate a device serial number.
- Enter a Batch Tag for this registration (1 - 64 characters) and enter a Description for the device (max 512 characters).
- Click Confirm.
Successfully replaced devices will have new device keys and device secrets. Their asset IDs remain unchanged.
Deleting Devices¶
- Select Device Provisioning Service > Registration Group Management from the left navigation pane.
- Locate the registration group of the device(s) that you wish to delete, and click View Details .
- Click Device Information.
- There are two ways to delete devices from registration groups.
- Locate the device that you wish to delete, and click Delete .
- Select one or more devices that you wish to delete in the list, and click Batch Operations > … > Delete.
Deleted devices will be removed from the list.
